General information

Shiplake College is a historic ‘Harry Potter’ style boarding school located close to the riverside town of Henley-on-Thames only yards from the River Thames itself. The school was founded in 1959, although the original building dates back to 1890, and offers students the opportunity to become completely immersed in an English boarding school culture during their course.

Aside from the colleges beautiful appearance and amazing setting, the fantastic facilities include a historic dining room, indoor theatre, outdoor heated swimming pool, tennis courts, playing fields and sports hall. The school is set within beautifully manicured and secure grounds with Henley-on-Thames nearby, famous for the Royal Regatta, Shiplake is in an idyllic riverside location within easy reach of London, Windsor and Oxford.

Summer Vacation Programme

Students have three hours of English lessons per day from Monday to Friday. Lessons are divided into two parts. Part One is language input which involves using grammar and vocabulary in various tasks/exercises.

Part Two - fluency/practice activities aimed at developing fluency through specific tasks like designing a website or poster, conducting a classroom survey or even producing/acting in a short play.

Week course includes:

20 General English lessons;
daytime and evening activities;
1 half-day and 1 full-day excursions.

Activities

During activities Shiplake College offers a wide range of sporting options such as football, arts & crafts, dance, tennis, basketball etc.

Evening entertainment programme includes Talent Show, Disco, Quiz Nights, Film Nights, Sports Tournaments and many other options. Emphasis on communication helps students to use English for a variety of purposes and in various situations. The aim is to build students’ knowledge and confidence in understanding and speaking English.
