General information

Melton College has nearly 50 years experience of welcoming students to York. Founded in 1962 by Finn and Elizabeth Hjort it has always been a family school. Since then it has devolved into one of the most respected language schools in the UK.

At Melton College they have the qualifications and experience to help you make the most of your time in England.Centre offers general English courses, adult and junior vacation courses and courses for the over 50’s, often with special additional programmes.

In addition to classroom-based lessons, school arranges a variety of social events, excursions, activities and accompanied visits to places of interest in York. 

Over the years Melton College has  developed its building and grounds to suit the changing needs of our students. School is based in a carefully converted Victorian building with extensive private landscaped grounds, yet it is only a short walk from the heart of York. Large areas of grass and picnic tables provide perfect rest between and after classes. Students also have access to sports facilities on school grounds, such as tennis and basketball courts and covered table tennis area.School makes use of its large terrace for barbecues and other social activities.

The building it self provides all requires for effective learning and rest. It has superbly equipped classrooms, free Wi-Fi access, a lecture theatre, a library, a computer room, common rooms with facilities for students to heat their own food, conservatories, a self-access centre, a caféand a large south-facing terrace.

Melton College provides homestay accommodation and offers support for those who prefer self-catering. Student Services staff are committed to helping you get the most out of your time in York.

Accommodation

Homestay accommodation

Since the earliest days of the College students have been staying in homestay accommodation. In fact, some of current families are the children of school’s original homestay providers!Nowadays College has around 140 families in York ready to welcome students into their homes.

Comfortable and safe accommodation, often within walking distance of the College, is available for all students. Staying in local homes, carefully selected by the College, gives students the best opportunity to practice their English.

Students live as part of the household and share meals and facilities with the family. College has many different types of host: families with children, couples and single people. Older students, over the age of 25, can choose homestay with private bathroom (WC, bath or shower). All requests would be taken into account.

Self-catering accommodation

Arranging hotel, bed and breakfast and self-catering accommodation for adult students is also available.

Some students prefer to stay in self-catering accommodation during their time at Melton College. York has a great variety of self-catering options and school stuffwould be happy to help find the right one for you.

If you want more flexibility, Melton Collegecan either arrange self-catering in a local homestay or can help you find a flat.
